Recently, mothers more often decide to capture their babies in the first days after birth, to keep the memories of this wonderful period of their life. Below are some tips to future parents on how to prepare for a newborn photo session.

1. What age is the best for Newborn photo session?

It depends on what style you want for a photo session.
It is recommended to do a posed photosession within the first 14 days of birth (the first 7 days would be even better), when the baby is very sleepy and flexible.
Would you prefer lifestyle photo session to capture more natural images of the baby and your family? Well, this sessions can be done within the first 6 week after baby arrival. I love lifestyle photo sessions for the amazing moments between the family members!

2.When to book your Newborn photo session?

Schedule your appointment at least 3-4 months before the expected birth date to ensure you don’t miss the first days of your baby and I have a date in my calendar. Then, contact me as soon as possible after your delivery to schedule a time for the session.

3.Where?

It can be done in your home or in a studio.
In case of home newborn photo session, please open all the blinds and curtains, because there is nothing better than the natural light. The best time for the session is from mid-morning to late-afternoon. Don’t worry if you don’t have enough natural light, I’ll also bring additional lighting equipment to help out when needed.
Also I recommend you to keep your home a bit warmer than usually during the session (about 80 degrees) and I’ll bring a space heater to help keep baby in a steady warmth.

4.How long?

Posed session usually last up to 4 hours with feeding, potty breaks and posing. While, the lifestyle newborn photo session last no more than 1-2 hours.

5.What should we do during the photo session?

Just relax! Here are some helpful tips for comfortable photo session:
– Please, feed your baby before our session to ensure sleepy baby.
– Keep the noise level to a minimum, if possible. Find a sitter or family member for your older kids. But if you would like them to be included in some family photos, I recommend do it at the beginning or end of a photo session.
– Keep calm if your baby don’t want to sleep during the session! We’ll get beautiful pictures anyway.
– Please, prepare additional towels, wipes and blankets for your baby.

6.What do I wear?

– Have your hair, makeup and nails done (even daddies)
– Simple clothers, avoid the busy patterns
– Make sure all clothing is ironed or steamed
